The Team

Our hostel would be simply an old house without the spirits and stoke of the team that make it the most desirable getaway in the Wasatch. Learn more about them, who they are, what brings them to our corner of paradise, and more, on this page.

Spencer - Owner, Executive Chef, and Director of Snow Stoke

Spencer first came to the Wasatch in 2017, where his first big mountain powder day featured the phrase "there's too much snow!" after wiping out at the bottom of Milly bowl at Brighton. Luckily, he quickly learned to appreciate the blessings of a powder day, and quickly became enamored with western skiing. Finally, in 2020, fed up with the grind of city life, he decided to move away from locked-down Boston and chase his mountain dreams to Utah. While the assignment was at first only temporary, he quickly realized that Utah was home, and purchased the hostel in the fall of 2020 with the goal of sharing his love of snow, skiing, and the Wasatch with everyone he knows. Since then, he's delivered gourmet meals, big snow stoke, and genuine happiness and hospitality to our guests, and is thankful for every single person who's walked through our doors. He's always, always, always stoked on snow, and recently has discovered that the second evolution of snow into whitewater is pretty rad too. His day job is in data analytics for an ad-tech startup, but when it gets acquired by Google, he's gonna quit the data world and run a hostel full-time. In the meantime, he's become a master of Slack from anywhere, whether it be a chairlift, an airplane, or the back of his car, so he can continue to crush it in the corporate world while also pursuing his dreams of being a ski bum. When you're at the hostel, ask him about Alta, meteorology, Delta Air Lines, or Costco.

Evan - Host & Director of Type II Fun

Evan first came to the Wasatch in 2020, where he quickly realized that Utah's mountains were a far more aggressive challenge for him than the rolling hills of the midwest. That, combined with the fact that the hostel is only 1.3 miles from a Little Caesars, led him to return to Utah for good in 2021 to join our team. Since then, the hostel and its guests have been charmed by his quick wit, occasionally snarky humor, and dulcet guitar melodies, and we are all forever thankful for it. He's perpetually stoked on big days in the mountains (and telling everyone he knows that he had "a big day, brah"), chasing Christian on both alpine and snowy ridges, and drinking whiskey on chairlifts; in the summer, he's usually found thinking about (or doing) some absurd run that he thinks will be fun (he's got 2023 WURL ambitions and is looking for a partner) and is a budding raft guide. When he's not in the mountains, he's working for an environmental non-profit, but really spends most of his day scheming with Spencer about how they should both quit their jobs and travel the world. When you're at the hostel, ask him about ski touring, skull rapid, stretching, or bad pizza.
